Spannenberg to referee Vodacom Cup final
October 02, 2000
Sarfu Referee Carl Spannenberg's recent good performances have been rewarded with his appointment to referee the 2000 Vodacom Cup Final between the Vodacom Cheetahs and Nashua Griquas this Saturday in Bloemfontein.

The match, to be played at the Free State Stadium, kicks off at 17h10 and will be broadcast live on Supersport and SABC 3.

"Carl's appointment comes after good reports from his handling of the recent Vodacom Rugby Super 12 match between the Chiefs and the NSW Waratahs" said SARFU Director of Referees Freek Burger.

"The match was played in difficult conditions in Hamilton, New Zealand," said Burger "but Carl was complimented after the match on the free flowing nature of the game."

Spannenberg will be assisted by Eugene Daniels from Western Province as Reserve Referee and Touch Judge Number 1 with James Sherriff from the Golden Lions acting as the other Touch Judge.

Handling time keeping and replacements will be Hansie Viljoen and Skillie Le Roux both from Free State while Steve Strydom will act as the TV Referee and Assessor.
