Potchefstroom is one of the country's best-known university towns and the Leopards have benefitted from this, drawing lots of its players from the PUK Rugby Institute. The Leopards , formerly called Western Transvaal or the Mielieboere (Corn Farmers), has always boasted big, strong and hard players. The union turns 90 years old in 2010.
